InnoWEEE aims at increasing the collection of WEEE (especially small appliances from citizens, offices, schools, etc.) through innovative strategies such as the use of smart bins and the implementation of a web-platform, which will be tested in three pilot areas. The project aim is to put into practice efficient processes for the valorisation of resources, both through the regeneration and re-use of still usable devices and through the correct recycling and evaluation of valuable materials that can be reintroduced into the production cycle. InnoWEEE intends to use localization services for the collection and transport flows of the appliances collected throughout the supply chain, from the collection to the recovery and recycling phases, through a web platform based on interoperable data and standard ICT protocols.

The pilot system in Cava de' Tirreni (Salerno, Italy) aim at increasing citizens’ awareness of the sustainable disposal of WEEE and the possibility of extending the life of used EEE, incentivizing the adoption of a more sustainable behaviour. WEEE and used EEE will be collected separately: the first through a system of smart bins; the latter through a recovery system for their reuse. The containers will be equipped with a user recognition system that will allow to provide environmental information relating to the delivery and to implement a reward mechanism, designed according to the characteristics of the users and the local availability.
