Abstract

Solid-state, Ag/Me4NIn (n = 5 or 9) batteries have been tested in terms of changes of open circuit voltage, internal resistance and constant-load discharge curves after a storage time of 33 years at 23 °C. The results are in agreement the original shelf life projections, this confirming that these solid-state batteries should survive 50 years storage at 20-25 °C, and still deliver 50-60% of the initial available energy. To our knowledge, such an exceptional shelf life is an unique feature in the battery scenario which gives to these solid-state systems a renewed interest as reliable, long-life reference systems. © 2006 Elsevier B.V.
